Two of my poems were included in California Quarterly, Volume 41, Number 2 (with beautiful artwork by editor Pearl Karrer on the cover.) The poems were “Screen Doors” and “Bring Them Down To Ride.” Since it’s summer and hot, I’ll give you a sample from “Screen Doors”:
Screen doors
are the most evocative
of household appurtenances
They bang
they slam
they are yelled after
You kids
Stop slamming
Mind the cat
They are looked through
as in a cross-hatched dream
mistily
They bespeak lemonade
long summer afternoons with a book
or lazy conversation
Ice tea
mint juleps
ice cream
beer
Shorts and sun tops
A game of jacks
