NorCal Noir: An Evening with Mystery Writers of America
Join us for a panel discussion with local mystery authors Michael Nava, Claire Ortalda, Lisa Towles and Reece Hirsch. There will be plenty of time for audience questions. Books will be available for purchase at the event.
About the authors
Michael Nava is the author of a series of crime fiction novels featuring a gay, Latino criminal defense lawyer named, Henry Rios, as well as other books such as Street People and The City of Palaces, and is the founder of Persigo Press.
An award-winning literary fiction writer, Claire Ortalda has switched to mystery writing. Her story, “Oglethorpe’s Camera,” was published in the Anne Perry-edited Mystery Writers of America anthology, Odd Partners in 2019 and another story, “The Recipe Box,” is upcoming in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.She is currently marketing a full-length traditional mystery, The Psychopath Companion, a version of which was short-listed for the Del Sol Press First Novel Prize (Judge: Hallie Ephron).
Lisa Towles is an award-winning crime novelist, journalist, blogger, and musician. Her latest thriller, The Unseen (2019) was a Finalist in the Thriller/Adventure category of the 2019 Best Book Awards sponsored by American Book Fest, and her previous thriller, Choke, was an IPPY and NYC Big Book Award Distinguished Favorite. Her previous crime novels (published under Lisa Polisar) include Escape: Dark Mystery Tales, The Ghost of Mary Prairie, Blackwater Tango, and Knee Deep. Lisa has an MBA in IT Management and works in the tech industry.
Reece Hirsch is the author of six thrillers that draw upon his background as a privacy attorney. His first book, The Insider, was a finalist for the International Thriller Writers Award for Best First Novel. Black Nowhere, the first book in a series featuring FBI cybercrime investigator Lisa Tanchik, was published on September 1. On May 12, Thomas & Mercer will publish the second book in the series, Dark Tomorrow. Reece is a partner in the San Francisco office of an international law firm and co-chair of its privacy and cybersecurity practice.
